The low carbon sector is currently of key importance to the national economy. In 2011, the low-carbon sector accounted for a third of the total economic growth in the UK and overall it accounts for nearly 10% of economic activity. With almost 940,000 people now employed in the low-carbon sector, the industry is of greater national significance, in terms of employment, than the automotive or communications sectors.
Many Local Authorities and LEPs are positioning themselves to become the home for such future “green collar” jobs and businesses. This event will bring together leading experts from across the UK to share their experiences as to how to grow a local low carbon employment sector.
